The Good

  • Great intermediate snowboard
  • Good carving & initiating turns
  • Narrow design & small sizes

The Bad

  • Not made for high speed charging
  • Variable terrain was challenging
  • Advanced riders will want more
THE VERDICT
The Yes Snowboards Emoticon is an ideal women’s snowboard for intermediate riders. It is narrow and lightweight with plenty of flex for the lighter female rider. This board is a dream for the ladies who want to ride groomers all day long, have a ton of fun, and step up their riding to another level. Though it is small and light, it will charge for riders who want to push the board to its limits.
FULL REVIEW

Now in its fourth year and fine tuned, the Yes Snowboards Emoticon is truly designed and perfected for lightweight intermediate female riders. It is not just another men’s board made in smaller sizes with flower graphics.

Compared directly with other all terrain intermediate boards this is a stand out. It does not hold up to advanced boards in the same class because that is not what it is intended to do. It is a stand out for its forgiving side cut and friendlier flex, which make it a fun ride and will make you fearless on the slopes. The only limitations are purposeful. It is not a high-speed variability machine. Women who want to have a whole lot of fun on groomed trails and venturing off trail every so often will find this board a dream.

Handling

With Yes Snowboards signature Camrock, this directional snowboard has slight rocker in the tip and tail with camber underfoot, giving the board supreme handling and control. Designed specifically for intermediate and lightweight riders, this board handles well in a wide range of conditions and is a standout in handling variability.

Pop + Energy

A lightweight poplar core makes this board lively, fun and playful. This board is snappy and responsive for riders that may want to take a lap through the terrain park while mostly riding all terrain groomers most of the day. It has a fun lively feel for intermediate riders who want to progress or advanced riders who are looking for a playful snowboard.

Float

The hybrid Camrock design with rocker in the nose helps the board cut though crud, however it is not the best in class for float in fresh snow. The narrow design and small sizes mean this board rides well on packed snow.

Versatility

The Emoticon is versatile enough that it can ride well in most snow conditions however it will be a challenge in deep snow. From groomers, to the terrain park, to heading off trail it will be a versatile intermediate board for the lightweight female rider.

Edge Hold

This board features Underbite edge design. The side cut is pulled in a few millimeters at each binding insert, which creates divots and increases edge pressure. The change in side cut is minimal but it does distribute your weight when turning. It helps the rider hold an edge and initiate turns well and it is a standout in ease of turning and control.

Sustainability/Craftsmanship

All Yes Snowboards have a guaranteed lifetime warranty, which means they stand by their craftsmanship. The company does not advertise environmental business practices other than not printing and mailing catalogs, so it is difficult to know if sustainability is a priority. The core is made from a renewable poplar wood.
