The Good

  • Incredibly flexy knit fabric allows for high mobility
  • Wrap-around chest band for super easy on and off
  • Fast-drying, wicking fabric
  • Recycled materials
  • I didn’t think this was the greatest for high impact activities

The Bad

THE VERDICT

My C cup tester and I (34B) both thought the Switchback was the most versatile bra out of the 20 we tested. It can effortlessly take A to D cups from hot yoga to running and anywhere in between, though larger breasted runners may find it a bit lacking in support.

ITEM DESCRIPTION

An ultra-wicking, flexible racerback sports bra with a customizable chest band built for high impact activities. Designed for C/D cups.

FULL REVIEW

Comfort
I can’t rave enough about the comfort of the Switchback. Patagonia has done away completely with the standard stuffy polyester/lycra blend and opted instead for an innovative knit fabric that hugs every curve. The wrap-around chest band is supportive without cutting off circulation.

Fit/Mobility
Sizing for the Switchback is standard S/M/L, and although the chest band has to adjustability settings, the straps are not variable. The supple material makes up for any minor adjustability issues, however. The mobility is excellent: one tester used this bra for hot yoga and gave it a big thumbs-up.

Functionality
Both testers found this to be the easiest bra to get in and out of (although the two step process can be a bit confusing at first). Once you get both layers over the head, the adjustable band wraps around and hooks in the front.

Support
Although Patagonia bills this as a high support bra for C/D cups, our C cup tester didn’t think the Switchback provided enough support for her intense training runs. As a B cup, I thought this bra was adequate for medium impact runs (flat, groomed trails or roads).

Breathability
There is a lack of mesh and/or open areas on this bra, which prevents a high breathability rating. The fabric, however, has superior wicking capabilities and dries very fast, avoiding extreme moisture build-up and dampness.

Value
This bra gets a high value rating for its reasonable ($59) pricing and ability to perform well at diverse activities.
