OutdoorTech Kodiak Plus 10000 ReviewFebruary 18, 2016
- Excellent battery life
- Excellent durability & water resistance
Though OutdoorTech’s Kodiak Plus doesn’t earn top honors in any individual ratings, it scores in the top three in nearly every rating and is our top choice in the highly competitive mid-size portable charger category.
Overall battery lifer the Kodiak Plus is excellent: over 583 minutes of power in our intensive ‘real world’ tests, enough for third place among all mid-size devices tested. Discharge rates are approximately 15% slower than industry averages, however.
Like battery life, the Kodiak Plus’ power to size and power to weight ratios are also excellent, and third-best among all mid-size portable chargers tested.
The Kodiak Plus is surrounded by rubberized housing, but it is much thicker and more durable than its smaller sibling, the Kodiak Mini. The seal over the USB charging ports is also tighter and more secure. This offers considerably better durability and water resistance than the Kodiak Mini, with and IP67 rating (waterproof to three feet, for 30 minutes). The protective cover could open or be torn off completely inside a pack under the right conditions, but this appears much less likely than with Outdoor Tech’s Kodiak Mini. Cuts, slashes, or abrasions may also compromise the Kodiak’s water resistance over time.
In terms of features, the Kodiak Plus is more of a no-frills device, offering only 1 and 2.1 amp USB ports and integrated power level indicators outside of its inherent durability and water resistance.
In terms of battery life and power per dollar spent, the Kodiak Plus is only average. However, when accounting for the Kodiak’s high durability and water resistance, it is a great buy.
