THE VERDICT

The Goal Zero Venture 30 doesn’t excel in overall battery life compared to some competitors, but it is definitely one of the most durable, water resistant, and useful devices we’ve encountered.

FULL REVIEW

Battery Life
The Venture 30’s battery life is low compared to other large-size chargers, delivering only 444 minutes of power in our intensive ‘real world’ tests. Discharge rates, however, were more than 20% faster than the category average, and actually on par with the fastest rates found among smaller sized chargers.

Power/Size
Due to its relatively low overall battery life, power:size and power:weight ratios for the Venture 30 were only average when compared to other large size chargers.

Durability
The Goal Zero Venture 30 is built from an incredibly thick, durable, high-density plastic. In our tests, the Venture 30 survived our most intensive stresses with only minor cosmetic damage, and continued to function without issue. Only Scosche’s goBat 6000 and the ChoeTech’s 3-in-1 emergency flashlight appeared to be more durable.

The Venture 30 also carries an IPX6 water resistance rating, which means that it could protect from ‘powerful’ water jets (think: super soaker with an air compressor). The USB ports are sealed protected by the charging cable itself, which is an ingenious design.

Features
The Venture 30 is loaded with useful features, including integrated 1 and 2.4 Amp USB charging ports, integrated power level indicators, an integrated five LED flashlight, and integrated USB and micro-USB charging cables.

Value
In terms of battery life per dollar, the Venture 30 is more expensive than most, and ranks near the bottom of the pack for large sized chargers. But few other chargers offer this level of durability, water resistance, and features.
