The Bad

  • Limited battery life for size
  • Susceptible retractable handle
THE VERDICT

The Turcom AcoustoShock is a solid and great looking Bluetooth speaker with excellent sound quality and outstanding volume. In terms of design, Turcom devotes premium space for its speakers, and it shows: at 30 watts, the AcoustoShock was one of the most power speakers we tested, and yet still delivered outstanding sound quality. However, this comes somewhat at the expense of battery life. At 8 hours, the AcoustoShock delivers considerably less playing time than competitors in terms of size and weight. The device’s retractable handle—though innovative in design—also leads to questions about its durability.

FULL REVIEW

Sound Quality
The Turcom AcoustoShock delivers excellent sound and range. Bass and higher range sounds have significantly greater clarity and prominence than many competitors, leading to rich, well-rounded sound. Under the hood, the AcoustoShock has 2.2 internal channels, 2 full-range drivers, and an approximate frequency range of 125 Hz–20 kHz.

Volume
Packing 30 watts of total power with dual treble and dual bass speakers, the Turcom AcoustoShock was the highest wattage Bluetooth speaker we tested. Surprisingly, the Acoustoshock did not outperform its competitors in total volume, and only registered a maximum of 92db at close range in our sound tests.

Durability
Turcom’s AcoustoShock is constructed from thick, high-density plastics and a metal speaker grills, and is IPX5 rated for shock and impact resistance. Power and audio port covers are also well constructed, and seal quite well. Though the AcoustoShock fared well in our impact and stress tests, we have serious concerns about its retractable handle, which appears as though it would easily break if dropped or bent while extended.

Features
The AcoustoShock comes with great features, including a built-in 3.5mm (AUX) jack, a retractable handle, a USB port to charge external devices, Bluetooth 4.0, and an integrated microphone that can turn the AcoustoShock into a speakerphone. Wireless range is also very good — not only exceeding the Bluetooth 4.0 specification distance of 30 feet in every scenario tested, but also measuring 3 feet more than any other device we tested.

Power
Turcom’s AcoustoShock delivers nearly over 8 hours of continuous music and sports an 8,000mAh battery. While overall battery life is good, it is comparatively less than some competing devices which manage longer battery life in a smaller package. This is likely due to the size and power of the speakers, which at 30 watts draw more power than those of competing devices.
