Most gear advances introduce tech you didn’t know you wanted until you gotta have it. But any skier or snowboarder already knows that traveling with a helmet is a pain. The things swallow tons of space in your pack, or become an annoying carry-on accessory. Carrera hopes to solve this plight soon with their new Snow Foldable Helmet. Working off the tech developed for their foldable cycling helmets, the new model employs a flexible frame and an elastic fitting system, and is constructed into three parts that fold together, reducing the overall storage size by 20 percent. The design echoes the old leather pistards helmets, with snow-specific features like full-surface venting, integrated ear pads, and a removable, washable inner lining. We love the colors, which include a deep blue with a festive sweater-type snowflake design on the earpads and an all-leather model with a carbon fiber center panel. Price and release date are still TBD.
