Rossignol Experience 88 HD Review
October 13, 2016The Good
- Powerful but not demanding
- True all-mountain performance
- Big sweet spot
- Confidence-inspiring ski
- Great grip
The Bad
- Prefers GS turns
- More damp than lively
- Rewards skiers who steer
- Carves instead of floats
- Advanced to expert only
Rossignol's updated Experience 88 is one of the truest all-mountain ski in this category of the test. It arcs with authority and style on the groomed, and is manueverable and confident off-piste. While not outright owning any single sub-category, it's easily one of the highest scoring--and funnest--skis we got to test.
Rossignol’s update of its top performing Experience 88 is based on its Carbon Alloy Matrix technology, which simply put, is designed to increase edge grip and dampness at a lighter weight. In this ski, that theory certainly works. As for true all-mountain capability, one tester described the 88 as, “An OMG Experience.” It carves, it arcs, it’s maneuverable, and it holds an edge on everything from groomed to mank.
The 88 is at the forefront of the next generation of GS skis, with all-mountain appeal and performance for technicians first and foremost. If you don’t aim for a proficient arc, you may not appreciate all of the 88’s benefits. If you do, and you love frontside skiing, you may not ski anything else.
