Dynastar Powertrack 84 2017 Review
October 13, 2016The Good
- Carves like nothing else
- Super easy to initiate
- Very fast edge to edge
- Smooth snow contact
- Lively underfoot
The Bad
- Needs to be driven
- Better at mid-speeds
- And at short to medium turns
- More finesse than float
- Has to stay on edge
Dynastar's Powertrack 84 is one of the purest carving skis in this category, with incredible maneuverability, excellent edge hold, and an exciting sense of quickness from edge to edge. Best for technicians who really enjoy their turn, it's best short to mid-radius turns and moderate speeds.
The Dynastar Powertrack 84 defines what good–or great!–carving should be all about. Built with moderate and some lively camber underfoot, it is very easy to initiate, and quick edge to edge. Once in a turn, the ski’s deep sidecut has a wonderfully reassuring way of grabbing and holding on to a strong arc. The Powertrack feels exceptionally smooth on the snow, but still with a liveliness underfoot.
The 84 is out-muscled by other skis in this test, like the Atomic Vantage and Salomon X-Drive, for instance. And it does lose a little stability at higher speeds or off-piste. But few other skis possess its nimbleness and confidence of edge on the steeps or in the bumps.
