In 2016, ultrarunner Karl Meltzer set a new speed record on the Appalachian Trail, covering the entire 2190-mile distance in an amazing 45 days, 22 hours, and 38 minutes. That time shaved over 10 hours off the previous record, requiring Meltzer to cover nearly 48 miles per day for more than a month and a half.
On April 13, a full-length documentary about Meltzer’s assault on the speed record will be released. Entitled Made to Be Broken the film will give viewers a first hand look at the challenges he face day in and day out on the trail. It promises to be quite an eye-opening look at what it takes to run such dramatic distances for days on end.
The video above is an all-too-brief trailer for the film that has left us wanting more. You can find out more about the documentary and Karl’s AT run, by clicking here.
