Wondering what you should get your favorite outdoor enthusiast or globetrotting adventurer this holiday season? The folks over at SPOT might have a few suggestions. They’ve just launched a great holiday promotion that allows new customers to get the company’s satellite communications hardware absolutely free when they sign up for a qualifying service plan.
This special offer covers the SPOT Gen 3 Satellite Messenger, SPOT Trace satellite tracker, and SPOT Satellite Phone. Anyone who buys one of those devices between now and the end of the year is entitled to a full refund of the price of the hardware via a mail-in rebate, provided they first activate the device and sign up for service.
Each of the individual devices have different qualifications that must be met in order to be eligible for the rebate. For instance, the Gen 3 Satellite Messenger requires customers to sign up for both Basic and Unlimited Tracking, which costs about $150/year. Required service on the Trace includes Basic and Extreme Tracking, which will set you back about $200/year, while service plans for the Sat Phone begin at $300/year.
For those not familiar with SPOT’s products, they do provide a nice level of safety and security when traveling in remote places. The Satellite Messenger for instance allows friends and family to track your location in the backcountry, and provides the ability to send brief messages to let them know all is okay. More importantly, it is equipped with an SOS button that can be pressed to call for assistance in emergency situations. Similarly, the Satellite Phone allows users to make phone calls and send data, while the Trace is used to track valuable assets – such as vehicles – using a GPS signal.
Rebates for the satellite hardware are $150 for the Gen 3, $100 for the Trace, and $500 for the Sat Phone. Find out more about the promotion on the SPOT website.
