Since 1965, Sierra Designs has been a leader in outdoor gear innovation. Now, 55 years later, the brand plans to offer leadership in a new way – encouraging partnerships to introduce new people to the outdoor lifestyle.
Sierra Design’s Adventure Out initiative unites education groups, community partners, and outdoor business to expand participation in the outdoors. “The first step of this initiative is identifying the barriers that keep people from getting outside, like cost, skills and accessibility,” says Andrew Day, VP/GM of Sierra Designs. By expanding product offerings to include a wider range of affordable gear, providing educational opportunities and supporting likeminded community partners, Sierra Designs is breaking ground in reclaiming the true meaning of “attainable” in their mission statement.
“We recognize that as a heritage brand, there’s more we can do to increase participation in the outdoors. That’s why it is important to us as a brand to actively seek community partners who share these same goals and values,” notes Day. Heading into 2020, Sierra Designs is in good company, joining other outdoor brands in the push for accessibility in the outdoors.
In 1965, Bob Swanson and George Marks founded Sierra Designs on the premise that all people deserve to explore the outdoors, regardless of their background, experience level or budget. In an effort to get back to their roots, and in the original spirit of the founders, the Boulder-based company launches Adventure Out in early 2020.
