For 75 years, the U.S. Forest Service’s best-known bruin employee has been combating wildfires. Smokey Bear joined the USFS in 1944, stating at the time that, “Care Will Prevent 9 out of 10 Forest Fires.”
To honor Smokey’s long term employment, Osprey has unveiled a new limited-edition Smokey Bear Backpack and T-shirt collection. Sales of the specialty Osprey Daylite pack and assorted shirts – made in partnership with The Landmark Project – will provide funding to the Smokey Bear Fund for Wildfire Prevention Education. The program will send 10 percent of each sale to that fund.
Created in 1944, the Smokey Bear Wildfire Prevention campaign is the longest-running public service advertising campaign in U.S. history, educating generations of Americans about their role in preventing wildfires. With a substantial increase in wildfire dangers due in large part to human-caused climate change, wildfire prevention remains one of the most critical issues affecting our country, making Smokey’s message as relevant and urgent today as it was in 1944.
The Osprey Daylite packs, customized with Smokey Bear graphics, sell for $60 while adult Tees sell for $32 and kids Tees go for $20.
