Available both on the web and as an app for iPhone and Android devices, LuvByrd is a platform that promises to help us find romance, not to mention a partner who is willing to join us on our backcountry ski outings, camping trips, weekly hikes, and other active excursions. Upon creating an account, users are presented with a brief survey that helps to identify the outdoor activities that they enjoy most. Once that process is completed, they can then upload photos, fill in the details of their profile, and start messaging.
LuvByrd actually launched in Colorado last year, and has helped to spur hundreds of successful relationships. But earlier this month it expanded its service to the rest of the U.S. as well, bringing its matchmaking abilities to outdoor lovers nationwide.
The process of finding a match is a simple one. When a profile is presented to a user, he or she can elect to hide it from view by tapping an “X” icon, or choose to like it by pressing the “<3” option. Those that are “liked” will get a notification of who has expressed interest in them, and can open a dialog with their potential suitor should they choose. Like most other dating apps, matches are typically made based on criteria that is specified in the users profile, although in this case that criteria can include not only age or height, but also whether or not that person is into mountain biking, snowboarding, climbing or some other activity.
Signing up for LuvByrd is completely free, although in order to unlock its features users will have to pony up some cash. For $3/month, they can view others who have checked out their profile, while $3 more will show who is actively interested in them. $5 offers unlimited messaging (after a three-day free messaging trial). Stepping up to the $10/month tier gives users unlimited access to all of these features.
Additionally, the team behind LuvByrd has also organized some outdoor events designed to help singles meet one another as well. For instance, back in February the company hosted a chairlift speed-dating event at Loveland Ski Resort in Colorado, and there are plans to organize several rafting trips this summer as well.
