Warmth
The Brooks-Range Mountaineering Hybrid Down Sweater was the warmest jacket in our test. The combination of 800 fill down, Polartec® Power Sheild®, and fleece lining on the interior back panel makes this an ideal mid-layer for high alpine environments and fast summit bids.

Fit & Comfort
Tested in a men’s medium, the jacket is noticeably constricting under the arms. Its lack of bulk helps it fit under parkas and shells. It finishes just beyond the hips and is adjustable via dual waistline cinches. The Hybrid Down Sweater’s insulated collar comfortably wraps the neck and its chin guard prevents skin contact.

Features
Brooks-Range Mountaineering’s Hybrid Down Sweater has a host of winter-ready features, including water-repellent DownTek®, PolarTech® PowerSheild®, waist-line drawcords, fleece-lined hand warmer pockets, and a fleece-lined interior back panel. It has two interior pockets, an insulated collar, and zipper garages throughout. 

Quality
During testing, down leaked at stitch joints under both arms and in the front baffles at the edge of the pockets. The zippers and shell material held up well during testing.

Weight
The Brooks-Range Mountaineering Hybrid Down Sweater weighs 13.2 ounces. The difference between my test and the company’s 12.9 ounce claim may be the interior stretch pocket included in my sample, a feature not advertised on the company’s website. Despite the goose down, I wasn’t able to pack it much smaller than the size of a volleyball.
