THE VERDICT

The Adidas Supernova covers all the bases: an endless supply of energy-returning cushioning and a responsive fun-to-run-in ride at an excellent value. The Supernova proves itself as a great option for a wide array of runners, offering exceptional cushioning without sacrificing performance though breathability could be improved.

FULL REVIEW

As one tester put it, “This is an awesome shoe and I could find little wrong with it.” The Adidas Supernova is a daily neutral trainer focused on comfort. Designed with Adidas’ Boost midsole throughout the sole, the Supernova provides unmatched energy return and superior cushioning. The engineered mesh upper with heavy overlays wraps the feet for a secure fit and feel. Adidas’ Torsion System technology provides a plastic bridge between the heel and forefoot that aids in arch support over varied surfaces.

Comfort
From the first step out the door to the final stride home, all of our testers agreed the Adidas Supernova remains one of the most comfortable shoes tested. Generous padding throughout the heel collar and tongue assure no irritation during the run. The mesh upper is soft, however, it is thicker than most tested, which reduces breathability. Underfoot the insole and midsole create a soft, comfortable bed for the foot.

Fit
The Adidas Supernova feels like an extension of the foot. Overlays in the upper make it easy to adjust tension and dial-in a secure fit that accommodates a wide array of foot widths. A few testers noted extra length in the toe box, but didn’t mention it causing any issues. A soft plastic molded heel counter locks the heel in place without being stiff and uncomfortable.

Responsiveness
Walking around it’s easy to notice how soft the midsole feels, however this is the magic of Adidas’ Boost midsole. The more force placed on the Boost midsole the more energy it returns, making it one of the more responsive shoe tested. Despite a 10mm drop that favors more of a rear foot strike, it is easy to get up on the toes and get precise foot placements. Adidas outfits the Supernova with the super sticky Continental outsole.

Speed
Switching gears in the Supernova isn’t a problem. The Adidas Supernova is surprisingly fast for a shoe with such a high level of cushioning and overall weight. It’s easy to feel how Adidas’ Boost midsole absorbs impact and propels you forward efficiently and with ease.

Ride Quality
The Supernova is one of the most enjoyable shoes to run in this season. It offers a perfect blend of cushioning and stability while providing a smooth and responsive ride. Adidas’ Torsion System, which is a lightweight thermoplastic support along the arch, assists in a smooth transition from heel to forefoot.
