It’s a race to the top, and these pieces of gear have won in my mind. Decades of innovation has led to this period of greatness in road and trail running apparel — take a look at what’s setting the pace from the 2019 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market show in Denver.
Patagonia High Endurance Kit
Not to play favorites in such an obvious way, but I had to put this first on the list. I spent a good number of hours in this kit, from just the Endless Run Shorts and Capilene Cool Lightweight Shirt to the addition of the Slope Runner Endurance Vest and then a day that required times covered by the Strider Pro Pants and the Airshed Pro Pullover. The only piece of this kit I didn’t test was the Storm Racer Jacket.
Each piece is in full stride with endurance trail and mountain running. From an hour lunch session to a full day in the elements, I had everything I needed in the most minimalist way. The DWR finish on the pullover and pants was just perfect during a rainy morning run, and in chilly conditions, these pieces are light-as-air on the body (and just as light on your back, in the vest). The Endless Run Shorts are a standout piece as well, skin-tight yet agile and breathable, so everything stays in place, including your phone and keys. The Slope Runner Endurance Vest has that same physique, holding just what you need while staying perfectly put.
There’s more to say but try it and you’ll quickly see that this kit — each piece and as a whole — speaks volumes through every mile.
To be released Spring 2020.
Under Armour Rush HeatGear Tee and Leggings
UA RUSH is a new line of workout gear from Under Armour created from fabrics infused with minerals to improve performance. The UA RUSH Run HeatGear Tee is fitted to be next-to-skin, but it doesn’t feel clingy. The technology of the material makes it so as your body emits energy, the mineral-infused fabric absorbs and reflects that energy back into the tissues and muscles, designed to improve endurance and strength. Mesh panels offer strategic ventilation, and an anti-odor technology keeps you fresh.
The UA Rush Run HeatGear Leggings offer an ultra-tight compression for a locked-in feel. As with the tee, while your body emits heat, the fabric gives energy back into your body when you need the boost. Seam placement on these leggings prevent chafing or too much pressure, and the shaped waistband stays put.
Available now in Tee + Leggings.
Salomon S/Lab MotionFit 360
When you’re looking for the ultimate windproof and waterproof layer, check out this new piece from Salomon. The S/Lab MotionFit 360 Jacket has an ultra-breathable membrane and an innovative stretch waistband so you can store the jacket around your waist, and then pull it up over your running pack when you need it. It’s designed to be able to remove without having to stop moving. Gore-Tex ShakeDry technology easily sheds water with a simple shake, and the jacket’s reflective qualities are ideal for safety in low-light conditions.
To be released in August 2019.
Ridge Merino Crowley Tight
As the fall and winter running seasons approach, it’s time to think long pants. In a unique combination – Merino wool and compression – the Ridge Merino Crowley Tight is a high-performance alternative to traditional synthetic tights and yoga pants. Partnering with Polartec, the Crowley Tight features Power Wool, a patented bi-component knit fabric that combines both natural and synthetic fibers. This construction pairs a soft and odor-reducing Merino wool base with a highly durable synthetic exterior.
While the Crowley Tight creates comfort as it molds to your shape, it also regulates blood flow during any adventure. The natural fibers are soft on the skin while wicking moisture regulating your temperature. This tight is designed for running or long-distance hiking, but it performs just as well at the gym, during yoga and just while you’re out and about. A favorite feature is the thigh pocket – ideal for stashing a snack or your phone when you’re on the trail. Buy now
