If you’re an avid outdoor enthusiast, chances are you have at least one or two Buffs mixed in with the rest of your gear. The unique and ubiquitous headwear has long been a favorite amongst outdoor athletes, in no small part because of the level of convenience and versatility that it delivers. Whether I’m going on a hike, a backpacking trip, or jetting off to the far side of the world, I rarely leave home without a Buff in my pack. And, as an avid runner, I use mine practically every day on both the road and trail, which is why I was excited to learn that in the spring of 2017, the company will launch its first products designed specifically with runners in mind.
Amongst the new products that are in the pipeline are both running sleeves and an incredibly lightweight running cap as well. Both are made from technical fabrics designed to breathe and wick away moisture, while also providing a measure of protection from the sun. And since this is Buff we’re talking about here, you can expect to see them in a wide variety of patterns and colors too.
In describing these new products, Buff Inc.’s VP and General Manager, Shirley Choi Brunetti said, “This collection is about encouraging and supporting outdoor activities. Whether you’re an ultrarunner, a backpacker, or first time marathoner, this line has gear to aid your pursuit.” She went on to add, “We’re passionate about creating products that allow athletes to concentrate on their performance rather than the conditions.”
To that end, the Buff UV Arm Sleeves will offer UPF 40 protection from ultraviolet rays, and will feature reflective elements on both the upper arms and wrists to aid visibility in low-light conditions. They’ll also be highly breathable and quick-drying, to help keep runners comfortable and cool while out on the trail. They’ll be available in three different sizes too, ensuring that everyone can get the perfect fit.
Complimenting the new arm sleeves is the Buff Running and Outdoor Cap, an incredibly lightweight and highly packable hat that is easy to take with you anywhere you go. The cap weighs less than 3 ounces, and can be quickly rolled up and stowed in a pack until you need it. It features a brim to help keep the sun out of your eyes, and is also made of quick-drying and UV blocking materials as well.
We’ve gotten a sneak-peek at the new Buff line-up here at Gear Institute, and can assure you that it lives up to your expectations in terms of performance and quality. The arm sleeves are comfortable to wear, provide a good level of coverage, and can be quickly pulled on or off as needed. They are also small and lightweight, which makes them easy to stow away when you no longer need them.
Similarly, the running cap is so light and comfortable that you might forget that you’re wearing it. The hat features an adjustable drawstring to aid in sizing and it stuffs down to such a small footprint that runners who travel regularly are sure to love it. It takes up virtually no room in your luggage, and will probably be a popular item in a lot race kits too.
These two new products (plus new Buff trucker caps) are part of the company’s spring collection for 2017. Fortunately, you won’t have to actually wait until spring to get your hands on them. The running sleeves and cap will begin shipping in January.
