You’ve probably got one in the back of your Subaru or your van right now. Or at least you’ve got one at your house, maybe your girlfriend won’t let it out of the closet — or maybe she’s taken it over and wears it when you go camping and to music festivals, a more likely scenario.
Well, now the classic Mexican drug rug has received a serious hipster upgrade.
“While down in Baja we came across this blanket that we just needed to bring back. Not only to have in our van, Ruby, but to make into a new Rumpl. There are thousands of design variations, but this one spoke to us and said, ‘Yo soy El Puffy,’” the “activity agnostic” brand said.
In case you’re not familiar with Rumpl, they are the quintessential Millennial concept brand, telling their story “with images we have taken of our travels and those sent to us from our friends all over the world.”
All that said, the joke is truly on me, because my wife really wants one of these, and she knows how to wear it.
El Puffy takes classic hipster #vanlife style and modernizes it. Made from 20D ripstop nylon and printed polyester with a weather-resistant DWR coating, filled with lightweight 3D hollow fiber synthetic insulation, the modern drug rug is machine washable and cozy like a down comforter. It’s designed to pack down into its included stuff sack at 50 x70 inches, weighing 2.1 pounds.
The only drawback may be that it’s clocking in at $129 U.S. dollars, instead of the 200 pesos you should have paid for a real drug rug. But hey, nobody said being an Instagram sensation was going to be cheap, now did they.
