Inspired during a surf trip along the Portuguese coast, the story behind Heimplanet (Home Planet) began before Kickstarter was available in Germany (now of course de rigueur of upstart, creative fundraising for new products coming to life daily around the world) and the brand’s founders launched its first product — the Cave inflatable tent — by taking pre-orders through a website.
They’ve now won numerous awards for designs that inspire travel with outdoor gear that fuses functionality with innovative, modern design. They also emphasize versatility, a recurring theme we hear with a new generation of gear aimed more toward just getting outside as much as possible.
You can now support Heimplanet’s first-ever Kickstarter campaign, with the launch of its Motion Series of backpacks.
The Germans are introducing what they believe to be the most versatile day pack on the market in a 20L Arc and a 25L Ellipse. Watch the video to get their full run-down on all of the design features they believe will change your life.
We particularly enjoyed the wedge shape of the pack, the 3D pattern back panel, the durability of the materials, the outer stretch pocket, and the versatility of the pack from trail to coffee shop, although it did come across as overly simplified and under built on first use.
The optional hip belt pockets and the larger Ellipse version would be my personal choice for hiking and adventure travel, and only time will tell if the Arc I’ve been testing will replace any of my other smaller day packs. But I will say that this is a very cool company, and I really want one of their inflatable tents! Check it out and let us know what you think.
