Vasque Snowblime UltraDry Review
March 7, 2016The Good
- Roomy toe box
- Good traction on snow and ice
- Totally waterproof
The Bad
- Heavy; slightly clunky
- Narrow around mid-foot
- Stiff
The Vasque Snowblime UltraDry boots are ideal for those who like a stiff boot from the footbed to the upper. The boots fit snug around the ankle and foot, but aren’t constricting in the toe box. Compared to other boots, the Snowblimes ranked high in traction and warmth, but ranked lower in comfort. Lacing the boot up tight proved difficult, but they are very stable.
Versatility
The Vasque Snowblime fit well with snowshoes and microspikes, and worked well on a variety of hikes, like longer hikes on unsteady terrain and shorter hikes on flat terrain.
Comfort
The Vasque Snowblime boots are narrow through mid-foot, but have extra space in the toe box. A stiff leather upper and a cushioned, fleece collar make for a comfortable, secure fit with no hot-spots developing on initial hikes.
Traction
On ice and slick snow, the Snowblimes faired well, providing good traction and little slippage.
Warmth
During a hike in 19-degree weather while trudging through snow, the boots kept feet warm. When dunked up to the mid-shaft in a natural cold spring, the Vasque boots stayed dry and warm without any chill to the foot.
Stability
Overall, the boot is stiff—the midsole, footbed and upper offer plenty of support around the foot and ankle, but getting the boots to lace tight was difficult.
