Not water-proof and water-resistance is very minimal
The Sugoi Versa is a lightweight jacket with a very high-degree of breathability. Magnetic snaps make interchangeability between jacket, vest and arm sleeves/shrug fast and precise. However, it offers very minimal wind- and water-resistance.
WEATHERSHEDDING The fabric is a wind-resistant, non-stretch shell which works very well in light to moderate wind. However, it is not water-proof and its water-resistance is limited to the lightest of drizzles.
BREATHABILITY A mesh panel on the back allows air to circulate when wearing as a vest. When wearing as a full jacket, the lightweight nylon fabric and semi-fit provided a high degree of moisture-wicking through the arms and torso. The sizing of the jacket allowed for enough roominess to transfer moisture and keep the tester comfortable on high-exertion rides.
FUNCTION The Sugoi Versa delivers on the three key pieces of outerwear that every cyclist could need for one ride: a jacket, a vest, a shrug/arm sleeves. Switching the Sugoi Versa from jacket to vest to shrug is simple. While wearing the vest, put on the shrug, hunch your shoulders and stretch your arms until you hear all magnets snap together. The tester found that lining up the magnets was critical. If they are not lined up perfectly the jacket peels open and catches wind.
FIT/COMFORT A soft fleece lines the collar to wick moisture on high exertion days and adds warmth to the neck on cooler, low-exertion days. There is also a mesh panel on the back that provides good ventilation.
The Sugoi Versa has just the right amount of roominess to accommodate shirt weights ranging from the standard thin cycling jersey to a thicker, low-gauge merino wool long sleeved shirts. The arms are long enough to fully cover the tester’s wrists while stretched over the handlebars and were still roomy enough to accommodate a long-sleeved merino wool shirt without constriction.
PACKABILITY Both the jacket and the detached shrug/sleeves can be stowed in the back zip pocket. The entire mass is the size of a softball.
DURABILITY The Sugoi Versa is well-made with a sturdy zipper that never caught on the fabric.
