Volkl RTM RTM 86 Review
October 13, 2016The Good
- Accessible power
- Super stable
- Carving machine
- Excellent edge to snow contact
- Nice pop, and evenly balanced from tip to tail
The Bad
- Best when skied aggressively
- Not much float
- Needs to be on edge
- More hardpack/frontside focused
- One of the more expensive skis in this category
Volkl's RTM (Ride the Mountain) 86 UVO is a carving machine, delivering maximum edge contact and control on groomed/hardpack snow. Easy to initiate and steer, the faster you go the better it rides. When you slow down or stop arcing, you lose that fun factor. Best to keep your foot on the gas!
Volkl’s RTM 86 UVO is one super fun, very well-built ski. Extended tip and tail rocker make it a dream to get in and out of a turn, while the brand’s 3D.Ridge Core offers a super effective foot to edge transfer of power so you can easily hold on to a hard arc. Rated ‘Excellent’ to ‘Favorite’ across our core of testers, this is a ski that will reward any effort you put into skiing it with maximum output.
It does prefer hard/groomed snow, and off-piste has a noticeable lack of float. Less technical skiers will also struggle to access the 86 UVO’s finer features. As one tester so eloquently put it, “Even advanced skiers will run out of adrenaline before this ski gives up.”
