“Dude, where’s my bike?”

A recent graduate from Kickstarter, the new non-profit Bike Index is based on perfectly simple idea: the more bikes that are registered, the easier it is to recover that bike if it ever gets stolen. The site lets you register your ride, report stolen bikes, and contact the owners of stolen bikes. It also lets you verify the status any rides you might buy. They partner with local bike shops and advocacy groups to cast a wide net, and an easy registration, a powerful full-text search, and a mobile-friendly design makes this simple tool a great, open-source resource to combat the all-too-persistent realities of the bicycle black market. —Nathan Borchelt
