Steve Jobs must be doing somersaults in his grave given how many uber-massive protective iPhone cases hit the market each season. Indeed, most of the hardcore cases eschew the slim, attractive aesthetic that Apple embraces for something that looks like it’s made out LEGO. But if you go caseless, one drop and the glass on your phone could spiderweb into a broken puzzle of annoyance. Rhinoshield‘s solution would make Mr. Jobs happy. It’s one of the sveltest protective solutions on the market. The thin, transparent protective shield is composed of six discrete layers—a zero-residue adhesive along with layers that provide high-strength impact dispersion and damping, along with scratch resistance and anti-fingerprint treatments—but remains only 0.029 centimeters thick. You can take a hammer to the thing (as this guy does) without causing so much as a blemish on the glass, but you don’t sacrifice any of the phone’s tactility. Admittedly, it won’t protect you from the harsher elements of an active life like water or snow, but at only $25, it may be a worthy, modest investment—and it’s compatible with most cases on the market. They also make covers for most smart phones and tablets.
