Smith Optics Introduces its New Bike Helmet

Smith Forefront
Just in time to remind you that all polar vortexes (vortexi?) must end, Smith Optics’ first foray into mountain bike helmets will hit the market this spring. As first reported from last year’s Interbike, the new Forefront ($220) strives to become the go-to helmet for all-mountain riders. A new “Aerocore” construction (a tubular core structure combined with EPS, pictured below) claims to offer more ventilated protection that any other helmet on the market, with a 30 percent improvement over standard EPS impact properties and a total weight of just ten ounces. It certainly looks different than most helmets out right now, and will come in ten color options to help you let your freak flag fly. The helmet will have a new, adjustable fit system, and the little details have also been well thought-out, from a slot to fit your shades when you’re not riding to an integrated mount for a camera or light. Out this March.
