The Good

light-weight breatheable great fit!

The Bad

not as much energy return when compared to other shoes in carbon-plate category

The ASICS Magic Speed is a neutral running shoe that has a 5mm drop from 29mm down to 24 mm. It weighs right around 8 oz which is super light. I would use this shoe for a tempo run, easy runs. It is not the designated racing shoe that is coming from ASICS but you could absolutely use this for racing season. There is a little bit of soft padding in the heel which helps avoid some rubbing on the back of the shoe. I thought it was a really comfortable fit right out of the box and they were ready to go! There was a solid lock down and the fit was true to size. The fit of the upper was really comfortable and that was a testament to the overall fit and comfortability of the shoe. The toe box was comfortable and I thought it was wide enough for my feet. I might flag it as a potential issue for people who want a wider shoe. There is a plate inside the midsole. It does not go through the entire shoe. I think the ride is really comfortable and fun, but does not quite have the pop that some of the other carbon plated shoes on the market have. The cushioning is really soft and there is plenty of it. I didn’t feel like it was overly soft so you were still getting some energy return from the shoe.
