Gear News: Salomon Introduces Radical V-Shaped Ski

Ogden, Utah (Gear Institute)-Salomon is embarking on a ski area tour to introduce a radical new design in alpine skis. The BBR ski is the latest innovation by Salomon ski designer Bertrand Krafft, (aka: BeBeR) the shaper behind some benchmark designs in skiing, including the X Scream Series and Pocket Rocket.

The ski’s patented “V” shape is designed to float on powder and carve on hardpack snow. An oversized tip and rocker shape enable it to float in powder, while a narrow waist and pintail provide a short radius and short effective edge on-piste.

“With BBR it’s all about having fun,” said Jean-Yves Couput, Salomon Global Brand Manager. “This is the ski that helps get you that day on the mountain you’ll never forget. The freedom and adventure of your best days are exemplified in this revolutionary innovation.”

The BBR launch kicks off with the Shape Your Adventure Tour, a nation-spanning road trip allowing skiers to test the fun factor first hand. Salomon athlete Seth Warner will haul a cache of BBR demo samples to 40 ski areas across the U.S., culminating with a party at Alta, Utah in April.

Salomon officially launches the BBR to ski retailers and media at the SnowSports Industry Association trade show in Denver in January.
