Matt Hart

Matt is a contributing writer covering snow sports for Gear Institute. He’s a veteran adventure-journalist based in Boulder, Colorado. He grew up in New Hampshire and was quite possibly the worst skier on the Sunday River Freestyle Ski team in 1991. His outdoor education really began when he traveled west after college to work for Microsoft in Washington and began exploring the Cascade Mountains by foot and on skis. He’s a passionate ultrarunner and backcountry skier with Level 2 avalanche certification and has completed the AMGA Ski Guiding course.

Matt’s writing career began with his “Ask the Coach” column in Trail Runner magazine in 2008. He’s since gone on to write stories that have been featured on the front page of The New York Times. He also contributes to OutsideNational Geographic, and Men’s Journal magazines.
