Onewheel

Onewheel

Onewheel is one of the more innovative products we’ve seen at the Outdoor Retailer show in years. It’s a self-balancing, one-wheeled skateboard that’s capable of real off-road travel—up to eight miles on a charge and at speeds of up to 15 miles per hour. We had a chance to ride it at the OR Show, and it’s a blast. To accelarate, you simply stand on the board and lean forward and the wheel starts moving forward. It carves like a skateboard and rolls over bumps and rocks pretty easily, and it can absolutely rip on rolling trails. What makes Onewheel stand out from other electric skate and scooter devices is the fact that riding it well, and fast, takes a certain degree of skill. That, and the fact it travels off road well, makes it much more like a sport than a toy or novelty. After a successful kickstarter campaign, the company has just gotten is first round of real seed funding, and we’re betting we’ll be seeing a lot more of these on the trails over the next couple years.
