Keen Sandals go on a Diet

Keen Sandals go on a Diet

Last spring Portland, OR-based Keen unveiled a dramatic re-launch of their shoe line. Dubbed CNX (shorthand for “connects,” and thankfully not another outdoor gear acronym), the revamp put Keen’s old designs on a diet. Each of the 20 or so new models weighs in at ten ounces or less, and boasts low-profile designs with lightweight poly soles, solid arch support, and a natural 4-mm heel-to-toe drop. Next spring, they’ll continue to refine this advance with models like the Gallatin CNX ($110). This fully-covered water shoe boasts a washable poly-webbing upper, bungee-secure lacing, enough draining grooves to purge all the water you need to drain, and a more modest overall profile. This one could be the perfect go-to hiker in both wet and dry conditions. —Nathan Borchelt
