Altra Paradigm 6

The Paradigm 6 is the sixth-generation of Altra's thickest, most cushioned road shoe. The standout feature on the new Paradigm 6 is it's new "Atra EGO Max" midsole, a whopping 30-millimeter, zero-drop foam midsole designed for a light, cushioned, responsive ride. Fans of prior versions will notice Altra's GuideRail support system is back, together with a trimmed-down "InnovArch" feature designed to encourage better foot placement with each stride. This is a comfort-minded shoe that aims to provide some support, with sample weights for women (size 8.5) at 9.3 ounces and for men (size 10.5) at 10.8 ounces. It retails for $160. Fans of other brands will find this shoe similar to the Adidas UltraBoost ST, Asics Kayano, Brooks Transcend, Hoka Gaviota/Bondi, Mizuno Horizon, New Balance 1260, Nike Odyssey React, On Cloudace, and Saucony Omni/Hurricane.

The Good
  • Massive cushioning with moderately crisp rebound
  • Light, quick turnover
  • Easy-going, comfortable ride

  • Toebox is wide but low--you'll feel the fabric on the tops of your toes.
  • Not all that exciting in any particular respect
