Elan Amphibio 16 Ski Test Results 2016 Review
September 16, 2015The Good
- Lightning quick
- Easy initiation
- Damp hold
- Smooth turns
The Bad
- Quickness comes at some cost to stability
- Felt limited to medium radius turns
- And moderate speeds
Elan's Amphibio 16 is an easy turning, medium radius loving ski with a silky smooth feel that will appeal to a wide variety of moderate speed (i.e., intermediate to advanced) enjoying skiers. It is not for hard chargers.
Elan’s Amphibio 16 utiilizes the brand’s proprietary mix of camber and rocker in an asymetrical profile to ensure almost clairvoyant turn initiation with reliable edge hold. Testers found this ski almost luxurious in its handling of hardpack snow, providing a super silky ride that almost exclusively in medium radius turns.
It was a welcome break from many of the hard-charging hardpack crushing machines we encountered in the Frontside test, although that also means this is not a ski we recommend for the mainstay of this market, ex-racers. Definitely a ski that can improve a good day on snow.
