We always love it when we hear about a new technology, and Chrome Bags’ new line of Urban Dry Bags have introduced the term “knurled welded” into our gear lexicon. The proprietary technique combines RF welding with a mechanical interlock to create what they claim to be the toughest, lightest, 100 percent waterproof bags. According to their press materials, the bombproof 600-denier fabric has a pull strength of 800 pounds, with more contact welds per surface area than other packs to make the bags 150 percent more waterproof but weigh 70 percent lighter than competing bags on the market. Targeting cycle commuters, bike campers, and adventure biking, the new roll-top models come in four models, two backpacks (the Urban EX Rolltop 14 for $120, and the larger Rooltop 37 for $160), a pannier ($160) and a front-rack duffle for $100. The svelte matt black color makes it clutch for the urban set, and a loop system allows for easy expansion, with a five-bar webbing haul strap for easy carrying.
