Cairn Is A Monthly Subscription Box For Outdoor Gear Lovers

For a true outdoor enthusiast, is there anything better than getting new outdoor gear? Nothing quite beats the feel of picking up a new piece of equipment, and then putting it to use in the backcountry. A subscription box service called Cairn wants to give you that feeling on a regular basis by shipping new products directly to your door each month.

Signing up for the service is very easy. You simply visit GetCairn.com and fill out the subscription form online. A one-month subscription costs $25, but discounts are applied for both 6 and 12 month options with the price dropping to $22.50 and $21.67 respectively. After you’ve completed the sign-up process, each month you’ll receive a box in the mail filled with outdoor and active lifestyle goodies.

So just what does your monthly fee get you? I had a chance to check out a sample box from Cairn, and inside I found an inflatable camp pillow from Klymit (retail value $30), a Munk Pack oatmeal squeeze ($2.50), Sierra Sage Bug Be Gone ($8), and a package of Neapolitan ice cream from Mountain House ($3). That means your $25 (or less!) investment, scores you roughly $45 worth of goods. That’s not bad at all.

Awhile back we took a look at another monthly subscription box service called BivySak.com that shipped outdoor enthusiasts a new crate of gear every quarter. We thought the gear inside the box was very impressive, but lamented the fact that we had to wait three months between seasonal shipments. That isn’t the case with Cairn however, which has elected to provide subscribers with less expensive items in the box, but a more frequent shipping schedule. Depending on how many months you sign up for, Cairn is also the more affordable of the two services, although the base price points for the two subscriptions are pretty much the same.

In speaking with the crew from Cairn at Outdoor Retailer in August, I learned that they have plans to expand their subscription offerings in the future. Their current monthly boxes are already a bargain however, and the fact that you never know exactly what you’re going to get is part of the fun. If you’re an outdoor gear lover, chances are you’ll really enjoy the service, and the products it delivers to you on a montly basis. And, with the holidays just around the corner, a Cairn subscripition makes a great gift for someone else on your list too.
