The Internet of Things should likely continue to trend into 2014, but high-tech gear has been around for a while. And while some of the earlier electronically powered apparel products have stumbled rather than soared, we think Black Diamond’s new Cayenne Glove may hit the sweet spot for those who suffer cold digits. The mid-weight glove boasts an integrated three-level heating system. Simple plus and minus controls just over the cuff let you adjust the heat to your liking, distributing the warmth through flexible heat tape that runs around—and over—the fingers. It runs off twin lithium-polymer batteries that are said to keep things cooking for ten hours on a charge. This tech is married with a waterproof/breathable Gore-Tex insert, and 142 grams of Primaloft One insulation, wrapped in an a stretchy nylon shell with a goat-leather palm. At $399, these are a serious investment, and while we know Black Diamond’s stuff to be crazy-durable, only future seasons will tell how long these gloves will pay off.
